The TarCutter filtration device has been specifically engineered to reduce the amount of "tar," contaminants, and pesticides produced in the combustion of cannabis. The TarCutter will NOT eliminate 100% of the "tar," but its patent pending design has been shown to significantly reduce the contaminants in the smoke.
Tar is not a single harmful chemical but rather is the commonly utilized description for the resinous and/or partially combusted particulate matter produced by the burning of plant material while smoking.
It is generally accepted that exposure to tar at any level is a contributing factor to lung disease and other health problems.
Back to the flower.
The last decade has seen the rapid expansion of smoking vapes and Cannabis products; this acceptance has grown beyond a recreational activity to include the serious treatment of illness and pain management. As of this writing medicinal cannabis is permitted in 33 US States and the District of Columbia. 11 states permit recreational use as well.
Looking beyond the US cannabis use is legal or decriminalized to a limited extent in much of South America, Australia, Canada, Europe and New Zealand. It is anticipated that this trend will continue as the science develops and new medicinal applications are approved.
According to the 2019 World Drug Report roughly 188 million people worldwide used cannabis in 2017 – equating to about 3.8% of the world population between the ages of 15-64. The increase in medical applications is expected to cause this usage to continue to rise over time.
There are numerous methods available to consume cannabis products today including extractions, edibles, transdermals, smoking, and vaping. Smoking remains one of the most popular forms of consumption due in part to its perceived rapid onset and ease of dose titration.
Unfortunately the prevalence of pesticide expose through cannabis smoking has been demonstrated in the chemistry and toxicology literature which has the potential to cause or exacerbate health complications in the cannabis consumer.
Chemicals used by farms to eliminate mites, mold, and mildew, as well as those intended to make the buds more dense are known to have numerous potential deleterious health effects. To the cannabis consumer these chemical residues are generally invisible and tasteless – meaning the user could be exposed without ever knowing it or understanding the risks.
For the medicinal cannabis user who may have numerous susceptibilities or chronic conditions, the prolonged exposure to these contaminants could potentially have life threatening consequences. The TarCutter is designed to reduce this potential exposure and provide the user with a cleaner and smoother experience – limiting the harmful contaminants while continuing to provide the dosage desired.
Pesticides
We all know that pesticides are frequently used by farmers to control pest populations, reduce mold and mildew, and otherwise encourage the growth of everything from tomatoes to cannabis. While pesticides are around us everywhere, they may become dangerous when combusted and inhaled.
